Royal Selangor Club was started in 1884 as a little plank building with attap roof, serving as a social and cricket club for the growing expatriate community. In the early 90's it was famous for the smoking concerts where people are volunteered or called upon to sing or play. Women are not allowed to the concert. A few big events that happened are
The Club was dubbed 'The Spotted Dog' in the colonial days. It was originated from the Police Commissioner's black and white dalmations, often brought there by his wife. It could also dued to the mixed membership at that time. The Club has been rebuilt a few times until the charming mock-Tudor structure found today adjacent to Dataran Merdeka. The rebuilt history is as follows:
Today, the club is exclusively for members with various sporting facilities as well as food and beverage outlets.
