Pahang > Jenderak Seladang & Deer Captive Breeding Centre (Temerloh)
The seladang captive-breeding centre in Jenderak, opened in 1982, provides sanctuary for this protected species, classified as 'vulnerable'. Occupying 20 hectares of land, the centre holds 27 animal enclosures and paddocks. The seladang or wild cattle, is Malaysia's second largest mammal after the elephant. Shy and sociable by nature, the seladang used to roam freely in rainforest habitats where it grazed uninhibited in the lowland river valleys.
The seladang mostly nocturnal by habit and when roaming freely in the forests years before, lived in fixed territories in herds of up to 30 animals. During the heat of day, the seladang took cover in the lush foliage of the forest while coming out to graze in open clearings and river valleys only when dark descended. At the centre, the seladang is fed natural vegetation, gathered from surrounding forest while the sambar deer grazes on paddock grasses. Both the seladang and sambar deer are given 'salt licks' and mineral pellets to supplement their diet. How To Get There The park located 25km from Bandar Temerloh. By Road : From Kuala Lumpur, take the Karak highway and follow the the road to Bandar Temerloh. Taxi services are available to the park. Things To Do
